They are fiercely loyal and protective towards their families. Dalmatians are very active because they are born athletes. We do not generally recommend Dalmatians for children under seven years old. Dalmatians are very exuberant. They can knock little children down while playing.
If you are very active and like the outdoors, Dalmatians can be an excellent choice. Expect a very lively dog, not one inclined to sit quietly at your feet. Dalmatians love and need exercise! Make sure you are not allergic to dogs before getting a Dalmatian. Be prepared to brush a Dalmatian everyday. They shed a lot! Dalmatians need to also live with you inside the house as part of the family. They are very devoted to their owners from whom they crave affection. This is a very intelligent breed of dog too. Unless you train your Dalmatian to do, at least basic obedience, these dogs will train themselves. You may not like their creative training, So it is best that you train a Dalmatian in obedience classes! And please go to an ethical, well established breeder. Such a breeder will be knowledgeable and always available to help you. Give a Dalmatian what it needs and you will have a happy clown that enjoys participating in an active life.
